after watching the BRILLIANCE that is Supernatural Season 1 and the begining of 2, going back to Smallville Season 5 is a little disappointing.
While the superman lore is quite fun, and all the characters (sans Lana Lang) are very fun to explore and follow, the show just leaves something to be desired. The new addition of Brianiac, played by the ever talented James Marsters (Spike of Buffy fame) is fantastic. I love seeing that guy in action, very very skilled actor. The episode with Arthur Curry a.k.a. Aquaman puts a whole new low for the quality of the series. Much the the chagrin of my roommate who was cast in the never to get off the ground Aquaman spin off show for the WB. This terribleness was made up for, however, with the 6th episode having young Lois Lane pretend to be a stripper so that Chloe can unearth a story for the Daily Planet. Thank you producers. So far though, the quality isn't touching the perviously mentioned Supernatural
If you havn't caught this show, you need to go out and get the DVDs ASAP. The 4th season is set to start later this year, and the story arc is continuous, so you have to watch it from the begining. The show was actually sold with the first three seasons being fully planned, so therefore the storytelling is the heart of the show. Actors Jared Padalecki (Sam) and Jensen Ackles (Dean) make one of the best TV duos since perhaps Bo and Luke Duke. (did I mention John Schnieder is in Smallville yeah he's awesome, anyways. . .) Padalecki's Luke to Jenen's Han is. . . .I mean Sam and Dean. Yeah that about sums up the character basics. Dean the loveable rogue, provides constant humor, but also a darker more serious side that drives the characters onward in their Quest. Sam's slow revelation and hero's journey is fantastic to watch unfold, and is just barely hinted at through the first season. If you like Americana scary stories/urban legends, this show brings them to reality. Sort of a mini horror movie in every episode, but with an overall arc that binds them all together, masterfully.
This may be one of the best shows out right now, and it's on the WB!!!! amazing.
and just because I love it, if you didn't see Battlestar Galactica, the 4th and final season is playing on Universal HD after the Olympics are over. Get the first three seasons on your Netflix queue NOW, you will be a very happy fan of TV like you were when you were a kid, but with good taste.
this might have been a little convoluted, but I am very tired and don't feel like bringing out a real reviewish thing, time for bed. also, DVR rocks. |

I bet Dwight Shrute owns all of the Battlestar Galactica DVDs. Maybe you could borrow them :)
just fyi, the latest, strike shortend, BSG epsodes are also aviable on SciFi and hulu, the catch is only 5 are up at a time. They just bumped episode 1 and currently have 2-6 up right now. Well when I say episiode 1 and 2 and so forth I don't count Razor, which if you go to the BSG showsite I think is listed as episiode of the last season, but it is such a stand alone thing I don't think of it as part of season 4.
Also, when you get to the supernatrual episodes with Ruby in them, let me know what you think of her chracter. it seems the show gets such flax for reocuring female roles, but I personaly liked the story line of Ruby. | |
